The 2011 Elizabeth Celtic Festival
Clan and Celtic Organization Registration Information
Clans, please note: This webpage will contain updated information, now (4-17-2011) through to
the Festival Dates of July 16 and 17, 2011. There have been some changes due to contruction at
Casey Jones Park and development of the campground. Those issues are explained here and linked
to other places. If a change happens, we will seek to address it here.
Date of Festival: Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17, 2011
(The "Third Full Weekend of July" and one week after the CUIS Irish Festival)
Like last year, the heart of the Celtic Festival (and all clan societies) will be in the pine trees
of Casey Jones Park (just south of the baseball fields). Based on feed-back from attending clans,
we will have all the clans together in an arc, along Aberdeen Lane, essentially on the north
side of the Scottish Athletics field (Braemar Glen). Tents will be on either side of this "path,"
pretty close together (in some cases, "pole to pole") More and more clans and Celtic Organizations
want to be involved, and this year we intend to have only clans (not artisans, vendors or other groups)
along Aberdeen Lane (clan row).
Several of the sites are not flat, but on a slight slope. Some tent locations have some shade,
though most do not. All are on "forest grass" and pine needles and pine cones.

2011 Information (forms available now)--This is "already decided upon" info, consistent with past years:
Event Dates: Sat. & Sun., July 16 & 17, 2011. Location: Casey Jones Park, Elizabeth, CO
Fee for clan space: $25 for a 10' x 10' space ($50 for a 20' x 10' space). Clans may choose to come only
one day or both days--the fee is the same either way. Application Deadline is July 1st, 2011. Each clan
will receive 4 tickets for each day, 1 parking pass, plus location map; this packet will be mailed on July 5th.
Self-Contained: Each clan or Celtic organization must be self-contained--please bring your own tents,
tables and chairs. If you want to do a cook-out, that's fine, but bring your own PROPANE outdoor grill and be
very careful. (No charcoal grills permitted. Existing, permanent charcoal grills in the park will be "bagged and tagged"
and not available for use.)
Check-in & set-up: Recommended check-in and set-up is on Friday afternoon, starting at 1:00 p.m.
(ending at 8:00 p.m.). In most cases you will be able to drive your vehicle next to your tent site to off-load.
Everyone must check-in first before off-loading and setting up.
Early Saturday morning set-up: IMPORTANT CHANGE FOR 2011: Elizabeth Parks & Rec. has dictated that no vehicles
will be permitted on clan row on Saturday due to liability issues. So this will be more like a Highlands Ranch-type of situation on
set-up, at least on Saturday. We will have a "close-in" drop-off point and will try to have one or two golf carts available to get clan
gear to the clan spot. (Whew!) Vehicle access for off-loading from 7:00-8:00 a.m. All vehicles must
be off the grounds by 8:30 a.m.; "Gates open at 9:00 a.m." for the public. The Lower Road (the usual main entrance to the park)
is access point for Saturday morning. The Upper Road (east gate), is now just for camping...and their is no access to the
Clan Row from the Upper Road. So, on Saturday morning, access to your tent site may be not as convenient. This is still a shorter
distance than Highlands Ranch and Estes Park, and we intend to have some golf carts available to move clan gear to
their clan location.
Hours for the Festival: On Saturday, Gates open at 9:00 a.m., but we're extending the hours that the
Festival is open through to 8:00 p.m., because the evening is cooler and we've had a lot of people come in the
late afternoon, after 4:00 p.m. Therefore, we will ask that clans stay until at least 5:00 p.m. before closing
up the tent; staying later is desirable, but some may feel that it might be just too long of a day. Because
the grounds will still be open for the public, and because we'll still be having performances and special events
until nearly 9:00 p.m., there will not be any cars allowed on the field on Saturday; in all cases, each clan or
Celtic Organization must secure their tent and belongings to their satisfaction: the Festival Committee isn't responsible for any loses.
On Sunday, Gates open at 9:00 a.m. and we close at 4:00 p.m.
Clan Activities & Events:
The Colorado State Haggis Toss Championships will be over (and away) at the baseball fields, starting at
1:00 p.m. for the Preliminaries, then followed by the Championships at 4:00 p.m. This year, it will all be over
at the baseball fields.
There will be a daytime Bonny Knees Contest held on Clan Row at 2:00 p.m., which is meant to be more like the
Bonny Knees Contest at Highlands Ranch. There will still be the Bonny Knees at night (actually 6:30 p.m.) at the
Edinburgh Stage, as well. Kilted men are encouraged to participate in both.
Parade of the Clans Ceremonies are at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, when it should be cooler to do it.
Form-up location will be at the west end of Clan Row. This year, the Parade of the Clans will be back
at the Scottish Athletic Field, next to Clan Row.
The Bonny Knees (at night) Contest, inside the Pavilion Building ("Edinburgh Stage" and "The Saucy Wench Pub")
this year at approximately 6:30 p.m., ...just after the Parade of Clans.
Saturday Evening "Calling of the Clans" torch-light ceremony: Meet near front gate at 8:30 p.m.
Ceremony will start around 8:35 p.m. not far from the front gate in the sandy (and safe) parking area between
the baseball field and the main Celtic Festival forest. If you're taking part and want a torch, please register on
the form.
Sunday Morning "Kirkin' of the Tartans"--Procession forms at the Front Gate at 8:50 a.m. and
marches at 9:05 a.m. to the Dublin Stage (Music and Dance Variety Stage) at when the Kirkin' starts.
The service should be around a half hour. (Ending around 9:45 a.m.)
Awards for BEST CLAN TENT, BEST IN PARADE and BEST CLAN OF THE FESTIVAL, awarded Sunday at a ceremony
on Clan Row in the afternoon. Awards are based totally on votes from participating clans (you can't vote for yourself).
Camping:
The Elizabeth Parks and Recreation District (EPR) has developed the upper (east) side of Casey Jones Park to have
both electrical and water hook-ups, as part of a park improvement plan (since they have to rework the park's whole water
and waste system to meet state standards). If you want to camp at the park, you need to make arrangements through EPR,
by calling 303-646-3599. EPR will handle all issues in the upper area of the park, including camping.
Please see Camping at Casey Jones Park for additional information.
Informal, Primative Camping is available free on the field downhill (west) of the main entrance road. You must check-in
with the camphost and use the assigned spot (or else it will be chaos and unsafe). We want a happy camp. Big Erik will be in charge.
