The 2010 Elizabeth Celtic Festival

Become a Festival Volunteer

Where we need help:

Prior to the Festival: HELP US GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT THIS GREAT FESTIVAL!

Help us promote this Festival! This is activity that happens in the weeks leading up to the Festival.
This includes contacting and developing sponsors, recruiting volunteer staff, poster and
brochure distribution, participation in promotional events, and more.

IN JULY--WORKING AT THE FESTIVAL AND SETTING UP:

Set-up and Take-down:

In the three days before the Festival (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), there are a multitude of things to be set up:
stages, fencing, signs, banners, a footbridge, the main gate entrance, site preparation, tents, tables, chairs, trash cans and parking barriers. (This might not be a complete list.)

Any help is appreciated, whether it's one evening, one afternoon, or just a couple of hours. Please call Neil Gillette (303-332-6133) if you can help with the set up or take down,or if you have any questions.

We will have check-lists and brief diagrams to "put everyone in the picture" and an "area set-up leader"
to show "where and how" things are to be set up. It really helps to have as many people as we can get
for both set-up and take-down (especially on Sunday evening).

On Sunday evening (starting at 4:30 p.m.), we do our best to take it all down and put it away.
Some work will probably also take place on Monday, following the Festival.

The Main Entrance and Parking Control:

On the days of the Festival (Saturday, July 19th; and Sunday, July 20th),
The first contact that Celtic Festival guests and competitors have
is with our parking volunteers and at the main admissions gate.
We're looking for people who are cheerful, patient, and helpful.

Shifts: Morning--8:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Afternoon--12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.

Adults serving beer at the Pub:

Being a server at the Pub is an important task. This year we will have two pubs: The "Breckenridge Saucy Wench Pub" is located in the Pavilion Building, and the "Breckenridge Rouge Pub" will be in the trees at the north end of the Festival Grounds.

Servers must be at least 21 years old. If you're interested in helping at either pub, please call Wendy Hiserote at 303-646-0152.

Shifts: Mid-Morning set up and start (pub opens at 10 a.m.)--9:00 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. (either Sat. or Sun.)
Afternoon--1:00 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. (either Sat. or Sun.)
Ceili (Party) on Saturday Evening--5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. (or close of the Ceili)

Adults and young people serving at the Volunteer Hospitality Tent:

We will again have a tent serving meals to volunteer staff. Not only is this a fun job, but it's really important to keeping the hard-working Festival volunteers on their feet.
Volunteers at this tent can be any age, and it could be a good parent-child opportunity.

Shifts (either Sat. or Sun.):
Morning--8:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Mid Shift Overlap: 11:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.
Afternoon--2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. (thru Close)

First Aid Tent; Logistic Support; Perimeter Security & Access:

The First Aid Tent is important as a place of rest and recovery in case of
too much heat or exertion and for aid with minor injuries.

We will need volunteers to help replenish ice and water at
several places throughout the Festival grounds. We also need to keep everyone
safe and maintain access control at various places throughout the Festival.

Shifts (either Sat. or Sun.):
Morning--8:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Mid Shift Overlap: 11:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.
Afternoon--2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. (thru Close)

Helping with Performances & Competitions:

You can also be a volunteer helping our Entertainers (three performance venues needing helpers), Exhibitors,
and in competitions (this year in The Haggis Toss Preliminaries & Championships, Solo Piping,Highland Dancing or Scottish Heavy Events).

Shifts (either Sat. or Sun.):
Morning--8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Mid Shift Overlap: 11:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.
Afternoon--1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (or thru Close)

It's fun to work at the Festival! You can learn a lot, too.

Volunteers who work a standard 4-hour shift get:
  • Complimentary lunch (at our volunteer tent)
  • Two tickets (one for yourself, one for a friend or family member)
  • Plenty of free bottled water while on duty
  • Adult (over 21) Volunteers get a free beer at our volunteer tent when you're done with you're shift;
  • Or--if you aren't that old or if you don't care for alcohol, you get a free soft drink.
  • People volunteering with set-up on Thursday or Friday get a ticket to the Festival.
